Hannah – a school leavers potrait session | Hobart Photographer, Katinka Smith

Yesterday I had a wonderful afternoon with Hannah photographing a school leavers session. This type of session is known as a ‘seniors session’ in the US, where it is HUGE! Many school leavers have a portrait session to celebrate their big milestone (even the boys!). School leaver photography is not widely practiced here in Australia, yet, but like all things (think newborns, glamour etc), it is on the rise. In time to come I am sure that Senior photography, or school leaver photography will be just as big here in Australia as it is in the US.
I’m always wanting to push myself creatively and so I had some very specific ideas for what I wanted to achieve with Hannah with regards to the style and posing. I am so pleased to say that we pulled it off in style.Enjoy this little sneak peek of Hannah, and if you are interested in a school leaver portrait session, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. A little while ago, Avril approached me for a photo session, and while I don’t normally photograph models I decided to take on the challenge to see what we could come up with. We had our session this morning and I am absolutely ashamed to say that I have let myself down. I broke my golden rule of ‘Don’t take too many photos!’ haha I am totally thrilled with the photos and have worked hard to narrow them down to about 200 photos to show Avril! OOPS! Oh my gosh we had an absolute blast and we achieved so many different looks.

Gender Reveal photo session featuring the Westwood family | Hobart Photographer, Katinka Smith

This afternoon the weather gave us the TINIEST break in the rain to photograph a very special little session for my friends, the Westwood family. On Tuesday Jo and Steve went along to their 20 week scan and rather than finding out the sex of their baby right there and then, they had the sonographer write down the baby’s sex and seal it in an envelope. Jo handed me the envelope at lunchtime Tuesday and I started to plan for the session. I was entrusted with the knowledge of the sex of the baby, an honour, thank you Jo and Steve!

So here is the story of the Westwood family. This is who they are right now as they anticipate the arrival of their new baby, and this is the very moment that they found out the sex of their baby 🙂
